Emerald Necklace Master Plan

This master plan of an urban campus has been carefully crafted to deliver an environment that fosters a rich diversity of uses, activities, and exchanges. The overall site has been envisioned as a place “where people gather and create their future.” The resulting communal space is most appropriately categorized as “public realm.”

The proposed redevelopment of this urban campus will not simply yield a collection of new office buildings, apartments, shops, and hotels. Rather, it has been thoughtfully designed as a uniquely interrelated world-class mixed-use destination where built elements create a synergetic community. As a place for interaction and innovation, the resulting extensive public realm of this new 21st century campus will be capable of hosting a range of activities -- from local events for the community to city-wide festivals.

To facilitate such spontaneous events and activities, communal spaces have been flexibly designed to allow them to occur naturally. Plazas, pocket parks, pathways, and even building lobbies and roof terraces will be able to host a range of unique experiences, including pop-up retail, temporary food venues and performances. The master plan is designed to target LEED-NC Gold.
